Is the Humentum Insurance Plan Right For You?

To the international non-governmental organization (INGO) community, Humentum is a partner that assists them with focusing on “practical solutions to improve the effectiveness of finance, people, risk, and compliance processes.” Helping its members be equitable, resilient, and accountable is central to what Humentum does. Part of achieving that mission means providing member organizations with an insurance plan that meets the needs of INGOs with a global workforce of staff on international assignments and Local Nationals (LNs).

Allegiant has been the exclusive broker of record for the Humentum Association Plan for over 13 years — since 2011 — and our team has seen first-hand how effective (and popular) this plan has been for its members. If you are among the more than 270 humanitarian and development organizations that make up Humentum’s membership — but haven’t yet joined the plan — it’s worth considering. If you aren’t yet a Humentum member but are looking for new insurance coverage, it may be worth joining to get access to the affordable, turnkey Humentum Association Plan.

5 reasons INGOs should consider the Humentum Association Plan

In our view, there are five main reasons why INGOs should consider enrolling in the Humentum insurance plan. We’ll walk you through each of them, but first, ask yourself a few questions to decide if the Humentum Association Plan might be right for you:

  • Does your organization have 2-50 employees?

  • Do you need a turnkey solution with no medical underwriting?

  • Does your organization’s employees include country locals, U.S. expatriates, or third-country nationals?

1. Humentum is affordable

One of the reasons small businesses and organizations often find insurance coverage unaffordable is because the pool of risk they are playing in is too shallow. Larger organizations have an advantage because the risk is spread among more participants. However, when INGOs join the Humentum Association Plan, they pool their risk across all of the plan’s members, making it affordable for even the smallest INGOs. Some members even tell us that their organization’s Humentum Association Plan comes in under budget.

2. The Humentum Association Plan is turnkey

Enrolling in the Humentum Association Plan is simple. All a member group has to do is reach out to the Allegiant team and indicate they want to offer the plan to their employees, and we take care of the rest. INGOs considering a change in insurance carriers can spend 60 to 90 days comparing carriers and plans, creating more work for an already busy human resources department. We work directly with an exclusive carrier — currently Cigna — to enroll your employees who can have coverage active within a few weeks. Your team will be able to sleep better at night knowing you are covered by an international insurance carrier team and your dedicated Allegiant account manager.

3. Humentum’s insurance plan offers coverage options

One of the ways we make the Humentum Association Plan even more affordable for members is by offering two options. One plan offers more cost-sharing on the part of the employee to contain costs for the employer. The other plan provides more robust coverage for the employee and their families. So, even though the plan is turnkey, employers still have some flexibility to choose the coverage they need. The good news is you can’t go wrong with either option, as both plans offer options for healthcare, life, and disability benefits — including coverage for inpatient, outpatient, pharmaceutical, dental, and vision.

4. Get access to KonTerra Employee Assistance & Resilience Program™

Addressing the mental health concerns of staff is increasingly important for all employers, but it’s especially true for INGOs, which often send employees to stressful and dangerous environments. No matter which Humentum plan your organization chooses, it comes with access to the KonTerra Employee Assistance & Resilience Program™ (EARP™). KonTerra’s EARP delivers counseling “by highly experienced counselors who specialize in supporting staff working in high-stress and high-threat environments and inherently stressful roles involving exposure to suffering, threat, violence, and conflict.”

5. Humentum gives you access to Global People Strategist

Human resources is a complex field even when you are just dealing with local regulations — that challenge is magnified exponentially when an organization has employees dispersed across the globe. That’s why Humentum has partnered with Global People Strategist (GPS) to provide members with the resources they need to navigate compliance around the world. From employee handbooks to country-specific labor resources, GPS can help simplify the task of managing employees across the global stage.

The bottom line on the Humentum Association Plan

As the plan administrator, Allegiant Global Partners is privy to feedback members might have about the Humentum Association Plan. Fortunately, members are pleased with their coverage. Cigna regularly conducts surveys regarding customer satisfaction, and the results show this plan works well and relatively seamlessly for its members. That’s why we feel passionate about helping Humentum expand this plan. INGOs need to focus on their missions, and having an insurance plan that just works allows them to do so.
